HIGH COMMISSIONER’S REPORT

Wellington, November 23

Following is the High Commission-, er’s cable, dated November 21st:— Mutton.—The market is quiet and prices have declined. More is being offered on account of moderate supplies coming- forward. Canterbury 5 15-16 d, North Island 5 13-16 d. Lamb.—There is dull sale for all lamb. Prices : declined partly owing to competition with this season’s Australian. Canterbury twos 6|d, heavy weight 0|d } - other than Canterbury 6i}d. Beef.—There is no alteration in the market since last week. New Zealand hinds 6 3-16 d, fores s|d. Chilled Beef.—The market is affected by a decrease in arrivals. Hinds 6|d, fores s|d. Butter.—The market is firmer, with active demand for high grades. Danish is steady -at 139 s to 1425. New Zealand is firm at 126 s to 130 s, uncalled 128 sto 1325. Australian, .firm, more enquiry, 124 s to 128 s. Siberian, firm demand, 118 s to 120 s. Irish creamery, slow, 124 sto 130 s. Argentine, steady, 120 s to 1245. Cheese.—The market is firm with an upward tendency. Canadian, ■white and colored 76s to 775. Cannot quote prices of New Zealand cheese. The Corinthie is in dock discharging now.

Hemp.—There is better demand for •hemp on spot, but transactions are light. New Zealand, good to fair grade, £22 10s; fair grade, £2l; fair current Manilla, £23 10s. The output from Manilla, for the week was 12,000 bales. Wool.—The market is. strong. Prices are advancing for all grades of coarse crossbreds, but the market is a shade weaker for all grades of merinos and fine crossbreds. NEWTON KING’S WEEKLY REPORT. On Monday, T6th inst., at my Urenui yards, I had a full, yarding, for which there was keen competition, •practically everything being cleared at the following prices:—Yearling heifers £1 14s to £2 2s, 15-months Shorthorn heifers £2 14s, colored yearling to 15-month heifers £2 7s 6d to £2 15s, yearling steers £2 17s, 2‘year Jersey steers £4 4s, 2-year empty heifers £3 11s to £4 ss, 3-year steers £7 6s, store cows £4 T2s to £4 19s, small framed cows £3 4s to £3 10s, forward cows £6 to £6 11s, fat cows £7 10s to £8 17s (very strong demand), dairy cows £4 15s to £7, good springing heifers £5 l'ss to £7 ss, smaller sorts £4 to £5 ss, yearling Holstein bulls £3'l7s 6dj yearling Jersey bulls £2 to £3 2s 6d, dairy bulls up to ,£9 10s, heavy bulls for canning £l2 15s and £l3, medium sized bulls ..£9, pedigree Jersey yearling bulls £6 Cs.‘ fat shorne ewes £l, mixed fats £! 0s 6d, shorn rams £1 0s 9d, small hoggets 15s 6d, store pigs £1 14s 6d, slips 18s. At Rahotu on Tuesday, 17th, there was a good yarding, practically everything being sold at the hammer, as follows:—Yearling heifers £2 Is 6d to £2 4s,‘ empty 2-year heifers mostly rough £3. 5s to £5 17s 6d, fat cows ’£B 11s and £8 12s, forward cows £5 12s 6d to£6 18s 6d, good store cows £4 19s to £5, aged cows £3 12s to £3 19s, small store cows £3 10s to £3 14s, small cows and calves £4 13s, stags £7 ss, bulls for canning £8 to £lO 17s 6d, Shorthorn dairy bull £l2 12s, 20-month Jersey hulls £4 15s to £5 ss, 15-month Jersey bulls £3 5s to £4, springing heifers good £5 17s 6d to £7 ss, small £4 15s. s Private sales as follows:—15-month Shorthorn heifers £2 to £2 10s, vealers £2 Is, empty 2-year heifers £3 18s to £4, store cows £4 10s to £5 2s -6d, forward cows £6 10s and £6 12s 6d, hulls £6 to £9, dairy cows £7, springing heifers £6, fat cows £S 5s and £8 10s, fat steers £lO 15s, working bullocks £2l to £26 10s per pair, hoggets 18s, 17s, 15s 3d, fat woolly wethers £1 11s 6d, fat shorn wethers £1 ss, fat ewes £1 Is 6d, mixed fat £1 to £l, 2s 6d.
