AUSTRALIAN DECISIONS. _____ (By EiißOTEio Tbmgbaph—OoPTmMuraJ United Peebs Association. (Received 11.5 a.m.) Sydney, October 16. On tho recommendation of the Necessary Commodities Commission, the following prices have been fixed, operating from to-day:—Wheat 4s 6d per bushel, flour £9 17s 6d per ton, bran and pollard £6 5s per ton. The prices are those prevailing on ls.t August. The price of bread throughout the State has been fixed as prevailed on Ist August. The price of grass in the metropolitan area has been raised from 3s 6d to 3s lOd per bushel. The recommendations are confined to the old wheat and do not affect the new crop. A LABOR MANIFESTO. [Feb Press Association.] * . ' Dunedin, October 16. A manifesto has beei isM-id by the Otago Labour Council dealing with the price of flour and other matters arising from the war. The manifesto condemns the Government for setting up a Royal Commission instead of following the example of Great Britain and New South Wales. The consequence was that not till two months after tho war had broken out had the price of wheat and flour been fixed. The result is that merchants and holders of wheat were flouting t'e decision of the Government and ignoring its prices. The manifesto states that the Government stands condemned of inexcusable wani of statesmanship and backbone in dealing with the inflated price of "every-day commodities caused by the war. The system of private enterprise is condemned and State ownership and control supported. On the question of a State Bank it is contended that if" the security of the Dominion makes the banks secure in time of stress then the same security would meet the case in normal times.
