The Battle of Meson
8000 FRENCH INFANTRY REDUC ED TO 1000.
(Received 9.50 a.m.) Paris, September 10. It is estimated that 20,000 French priests are active combatants. A brigade of eight thousand Zouaves went with terrible dash to the battle in the Means district, but fewer than 1000 emerged. The remainder were mowed down by mitrailleuses.
