Mr Duncan, of the Wellington Customs' staff, is at present acting as Collector at New Plymouth.

The death occurred yesterday morn, ing of Mrs Wishaw, formerly wellknoAvn in Elthani and Stratford.

Mr S. B. Hunter, who has been on a health-recruiting trip to Auckland, has returned To Stratford much improved, and has resumed practice.

Senior-Sergeant Haddrell, of New Plymouth, who completes a little over 42 years' service at the end of the present year, retires from duty at the end of the present month, and will be succeeded by Sergeant Bowden, of Feilding.

Mr S. W. Shaw received a wireless message from Mr Newton King on Wednesday night informing him that the Moana was expected to reach Wellington early on Saturday morning. Mr King adds that they are experiencing rough weather.

A very well-known and popular resident of New Plymouth died on Thursday night, in the person of Mr James Oliver, at the age of 55 years. Mr Oliver was for many years in the service of the National Bank, and later with Mr Newton King and the Crown Dairy Company. ■

Mr Robert R. Griffiths, the newlyappointed Home Missionary for Whangamomona, arrived in Stratford last evening on his way to his new sphere of labor. Mr Griffiths studied for two years at the Glasgow Institute and has just arrived from Scotland by the Corinthic.

Tho death occurred at New Plymouth yesterday, after a lengthy illness, of Mr John Simpson, who has for the past few years being residing; at Mangorei. Mr Simpson, who had been farming m various parts of naki for many years past, was 69 years of age. He is survived by a widow and a family of five sons.
