j London, September 5. The Navy has undertaken the aerial defence of England, particularly at London. Watorpiane,-; are, continually patrolling the Past Coast, and soarchI lights are employed at night. Guns against aircraft, have, been mounted nil the roofs of Government buddings, and numerous aeroplanes are near h\ 1
for the purpose of attacking hostile craft. After consulting leading traders and linkers, Mr Lloyd George, in order to facilitate the removal of difficulties arising from the breakdown of foreign stock exchanges, has secured an arrangement whereby the Bank of England, where required, provides acceptors with funds to pay all approved pre-moratorium bills at maturity. This will release the drawers and entile war. Until the end of this ties as parties to the bills, but their liabilty under any agreement with the acceptors for payment of the cover is retained. Acceptors must collect from clients all funds duo to them as soon as possible and apply those funds to the repayment of the aforesaul advances, whereon interest will be charged at two per cent, above the ruling bank rates. The Bank of England undertakes not to claim repayment of the amounts unrccoverod by acceptors from their clients for a. period of a year after the close of too war. Until} the end of this period the Bank of England claims to
rank after the claims in connection with post moratorium transactions. In order to facilitate fresh business and the movement of produce and merchandise from and to all parts of tlie- world, the joint stock banks have
necessary, of the Bank of England and the Government, to advance clients amounts necessary to pay acceptances qn maturity where funds have not lien provided in duo time hy acceptors’ clients, but the acceptor must satisfy the banks regarding the nature of the transaction and the reason why the money is not forthcoming from his client. The Government is negotiating with a view to assisting the restoration of exchange between the Untcd States and Great Britain.
The police are investigating daily 700 suspicious cases of Germans in London, and arc sending them to a concentration camp.
