STEAMER STOPPED BY GERMAN CRUISER.

London, August 27

The steamer Galician has arrived. The vessel reports that a German cruiser signalled her to stop, and not to use her wireless system. The operator immediately sent "5.0.5.” signals. He had sent tixe first three letters of the Galician’s name, when the Germans signalled, "We will blow up the bridge if another letter loaves.” German officers came aboard. They were very courteous. They arrested a British army officer and a gunner. While the incident was proceeding, a German liner disguised in the colors of the Union Castle Lino appeared. The cruiser forced her to hoist the German mercantile flag. The Galician’s passeng. ers cheered the Gormans as they left. The Galician was allowed to proceed after the wireless apparatus had been wrecked.

The cruiser Highflyer fsank the Kaiser Wilhelm dor Grosso off the coast of West Africa. The vessel was an armed merchantman, belonging to the Norddeutscher-Lloyd Co., of Hamburg.

An official German statement is made that the cruiser Magdeburg went ashore in a fog at Odensholm Island, in the Gulf of Finland, during a fog, and was unable to re-float. Torpcdocir rescued the majority of her crew under (ire from the Russian fleet. Seven were killed and aighfy-livu are missing. Thu Germans blew up t/k# Magdeburg.
