Actions at Sea.
CRUISER GLOUCESTER CHASES THE BRESLAU. Malta, Augtttjt, ,f 26. H.M.S. Gloucester, when near the lonian Islands, chased the German vessel Breslau, heforo she took refuge in the Dardanelles. The chase lasted for two days and nights, "uie Gloucester firing at long range. She missed with the first shot, but the second carried away half of the Breslau's funnel. The Gloucester repeated the operation, and cleared the Breslau's quarter-dock and put the aft gun out of action. Of the Breslau's 30 shots, two took effect, smashing the Gloucester's boats. The plucky little cruiser narrowly escaped destruction by a torpedo from the Goeben, which suddenly came to the Breslau's aid. (Tho Gloucester is a light cruiser of 4800 tons. The Breslau's tonnage is 4700, and the Goeben is a Dreadnought of 23,000 tons, having a speed of 29 knots.) RUSSIAN VESSEL BLOWN UP. Paris, August 25. A telegram from Nish states that a Russian monitor struck a mine near Orsova, on tho Danube, and was I blown up. Tho crew perished.
