The Government is making an exhaustive investigation into the prices of foodstuffs, with the object of preventing advances. The Government secured powers during the recent session of Parliament, which are sufficient to enable them to obtain possession of tht country's food supplies if necessary. Probably they will ap'poiat eoinmissioners in the various cities, fo keep down priees.
