These men will report to Sergt.-Major Bonar at 8 a.m. on Monday morning iat the railway station. Twenty mounted men are required, and they will parade with their hors< i at 11 o'clock to-morrow morning at the Haymarkct, Captain Stevens coming through to inspect them. These men, if their horses are passed, will 'report to Lieut. Wilson at 9 a.m. on Monday, to entrain for Hawera, Five drivers are also required from Stratford, and they will report to the defence office at 4 p.m. on Monday, pro ceeding to Hawera by the evening train. After this bat-it no more civilians will be required, for the present contingent. EMPIRE DEFENCE LEAGUE STRATFORD. General Committee.—About 35 men have been provided with personal equipment by the committee, and three horses .have been bought and given to the Government. The organisation ol these matters has been attended with difficulty owing principally to the fact that the men are not finally accepted for service until reaching the depots at Neiv Plymouth and Hawera. It takes some little time to get into the methods of the Department. From now on things should work smoothly. Probably there will 'bo about another 35 men going from here. Ladies' Guilds.—-There is now a failstock of requisites on hand and there is no occasion for the workers to put in Overtime. Tliey have done wonders considering the short, notice that Ims j been given of the men's departure. ■•'Contributions: —Still they come, but the'i'e must be no slacking down! in this respect, Mr Massey's opinion is that tho War 'Will lasi'sii'mbnths' and many demands upon the funds will be made in that time.
