NEWTON KSNC’S WEEKLY REPORT. I, ; ' • Stock sales throughout the week allover the province have been considerably affected by the European war, and buyers have been quietty standing : by awaiting a turn in the affairs. Whilst very little business has# been done prices have not as yet been seriously affected, vendors being in most cases content to hang on. At Stratford on Tuesday, 4th inst., in the store cattle yards, prices obtained were:—Fat wethers £1 6s 6d, forward owes 17s 6d, 2-tooth wethers 19s 6d, lambs 12s, empty 20 month heifers £3 4s to £3 15s, yearling heifers £2 17s to £2 2s (all for choice lines), yearling steers £2 8s 6d to £3 3s, 20 month steers £3 16s, mixed 2 year to year steers £5 10s, store cows £2 15s to £3 15s, aged cows £1 12s to £2 ss, fat cows £6 6s. In the springing heifer yards. I had a successful sale. Mr Marfell’s dairy herd brought from £6 to £lO ss. Dairy cows on account of other vendors £5 2s 6d to £7 15s, springing heifers £4 to £9 ss. At Stony River yards on Wednesday yearling heifers brought £2, weaner to yearling steers £1 15s to £2 10s, bulls £3 7s 6d to £3 10s, springing heifers £4 to £A dairy cows £7, store cows £1 16s to *3 15s, prime fat cows j£B, £7 ss, £7, £6 3s. On Monday, 3rd, at Tikorangi, for Mr H. Colo’s clearing sale, I had a good attendance. The herd of cows were a choice lino, and made a satisfactory average of £lO 0s 6d for the line. At Mangatoki, on Thursday, in conjunction with the Hawera branch ol the N.Z. Loan .Co., 1 conducted a sale of springing heifors on account of Air J. Phillips, jnr. Only the forward heifers were disposed of, the 3 year olds being in best demand, these selling up to £9 10s, others £4 5s to £7. Private sales for the week as follows:—Yearling heifers (colored) £2 15s to £3, yearling steers £2 os to £3 2s 6d, fat cows £6 10s to £B, aged store cows £3, dairy herds £ll to £B, choice lines of Jehsey springing heifers £l2 12s to £9 15s, grades, but good lines £0 to £B, hoggets 16s 6d to 14s, ewes in lamb £1 6s to £1 Is 6d, aged 18s 3d, fat owes £1 Is, fat wethers' £1 3s.
