CARNIVAL QUEEN CONTEST WHO WILL LEAD FIRST WEEK? The Executive met last night in Messrs Halliwell and Thomson’s office. Mr Thomson (in the absence of the Mayor, Mr W. P, Kirkwood), occupied the chair. CANDIDATES AND NOMINATORS. The following nominations were received : Nc. I—Miss Lily Hart (Green and Gold), nominated by the Horticultural Society, and supported by the Egmont Club and Public Schools. No. 2—-Miss Alice Cramer (Red, White and Blue), nominated by the United Friendly Societies. No. 3.—Miss McCullough (The Country Girl), nominated by the A. and P. Society, and supported by the Toko Settlers’ Association. No. 4.—Mrs George Smith (Royal Blue and White), nominated by Fire Brigade, N.Z. Railways, Post and Telegraph Department, and supported by the Public Works Department. No. s.—Miss Minnie Hignett (Red and Black), nominated by the Sporting Bodies, comprising Football, Hockey, Golf, Gun, Racing Club, Mountain Club, Swimimng Club, Motor Club, Acclimatisation Society, and supported by the Operatic Society.

No. 6. —Miss Meredith, nominated by the Eastern District Committee, comprising Strathmore and Whangamomona Districts. GENERAL. Mr A. D. Stanley was appointed Returning Officer, and a Scrutineer is to he appointed by each candidate’s committee. A resolution was passed to the effect that the candidate polling the most votes for the first week ending Friday 24th inst., at 9 a.m., and the candidate polling the most number of votes during each succeeding week, be awarded 100 votes’ free. It was also resolved to run a three nights’ dancing carnival following the declaration of the poll. The Municipal Band have placed their services at the disposal of all committees interested in the contest.
