At the Railwaymen's Conference, a resolution was passed in favor of an eight-hour day for all classes, in consequence of speeding-up being introduced. Speakers declared that a sixhour day would soon be necessary in the interests of the men. MARINE ENGINEERS' STRIKE. London, Juno 17. Ottawa, June 1(5. The Government proposes to approach the Indian Government with a request for control of the exodus of Hindus to Canada. RATAL FACTORY FIRE. Brussels, June 17. A fire occurred in cotton mills employing, a thousand women at Liege. A mad rush ensued for the escapes in the seven-storied building, and 150 were injured, mostly girls. TwO were killed.
