) HOCKEY. The local team met Kaponga at Kaponga yesterday, a very fast and interesting game ending in a draw, 3 goals each. Kaponga, from a hot shot by Rands, scored first, but shortly after, Thompson from a difficult angle found the net, equalising the scores. Stratford now attacked strongly, but with ill-luck, three shots going over the goal and several just missing the posts. Just on half-time, from a scramble in the circle, Rands pushed the ball through, making the score two to one. Shortly after the commencement of the second' spell, Guy scored again for Kaponga. Play was now very even for a time, several easy shots being missed by both sides. ; With about ten minutes to go, Stratford were still two goals down, but the forwards then got going, and rattled on two goals in quick succession, Oxley and Priest be 7 ing the scorers, and were enceedingly unfortunate in not winning. Power, the Kaponga goalkeeper, being a hard man to beat, two hot shots from Priest wore well cleared. For Stratford, Curtis played his usual sound game, and Oxley and Anderson were safe in the backs. Rands and Power were prominent for Kaponga. Mr Hill refereed. Kaponga and Stratord are npw even at the head of the list, but Stratford have the advantage of playing all the •latches of the second round on their own ground. Inglewood defeated Kaponga B by 6 goals to 3. For the winners, Allen 2, Harris 2, Raynor and McKenzie scored, and His]op shot 3 goals for Kaponga. Mr J. Harris was referee.
