"COINING' MONEY.

DISCOVERY AT TE AWAMUTU. VERY NEAR THE REAL THINC. [Fsb Press Association.] Auckland, June 12. A complete set of moulds for making counterfeit sovereigns, half crowns, and shillings was discovered at the residence of Frederick A. Smith on the Harini Settlement, near Te Awamutu. The police found in the whare twelve sets of moulds for half crowns, one for sovereigns, and three for shillings; also, a quantity of lead, solder, files, rasps and ladles. The coins seized by the police are * described as excellent work, their baseness being ; only detected by the ring of the coins. Smith apepared at the Court at Te Awamutu on a charge of making and attempting to utter counterfeit coin. The defence was in the direction that accused was not sane. He was committed for trial at Hamilton.
