A Dunedin Fire.
ALARMING, NOT SERIOUS. OCCUPANTS' NARROW ESCAPE. [PIB Pbess Association.] Dunedin, June 12. A fire which occurred in a block of shops with residences, overhead after midnight in George Street was of a gensational. rather than a serious character. • The outbreak originated apparently in the developing room of the American electric photographic studio. Some erf the material caused a dense smoke, which seriously alarmed the residents in two of the dwellings upstairs served by one exit. The rescue by the brigade was both exciting and very difficult, having to be effected from windows overlooking the glass roof, of a verandah. One woman and three children were safely rescued, but Mrs Carter, who was in delicate condition, jumped out of the arms of the fire superintendent and fell through the glass roof. She received a severe cut on the thigh, and is suffering from severe shock. The actual damage to the premises was not serious. ■
