THE RACE FOR THE DERBY.

The Derby, from a spectacular point of view, was a disappointing race;'A tedious delay of 21 minutes took place at the post, and there was'; a. false start. The only untoward ■vent was when a suffragette, named Ada Rice, fired a pistol charged with 'dank cartridge at a policeman who was clearing the course, burning the policeman's clothes and injuring him : .n the leg. The, woman was arrested.
Mr Duryea, owner of Durbar, is a wealthy American, who went to France arid established a stud farm when the betting restrictions were en. forced in. New York State. He won the Two Thousand Guineas in 1912, and twelve races worth £15,000 in 1913.
The result of the Derby was a'surprise, and a tremendous, win for the bookmakers, the crowd being stunned and silent, i , . ~'....
