GENERAL HAMILTON.
A BRIEF STAY AT STRATFORD. General Sir*lan Hamilton, Inspec-tor-General of Overseas Forces, passed through Stratford at 11.15 this morning, en route for New Plymouth, where, this afternoon he reviewed nearly a thousand cadets. General Hamilton, who is accompanied by the Hon. Jas. Allen (Minister of Defence), ißrigadier-General Ellison, General Godley (commander of the New Zealand Forces), Major Ashmore (staff officer to General Sir lan Hamilton), Colonel Heard (director of military training), Colonel Chaytpr (officer commanding Wellington military district), Major Temperley (staff officer to Colonel Chaytor), and Lieut b. Richmond and Rhodes (staff officers to General Godley), is travelling by special train, and' at various points along the route was met by gatherings desiring to do him honor. At Stratford . members of 1 the Scottish Society as- , hefhbieil in force arid,'in the unavoidable absence of Mr Geo. 1 Sangster, President of the Society, Mr A. F. Grant,’ vice-Chairm'an and Chieftain, ' met Sir lan Hamilton .and gave him tvelconnh A number of Scottish gentlemen were introduced to the dis-' ‘tinguished visitor, and a few minutes ' were pleasantly spent in conversation, 1 the train proceeding shortly after ' noon, with cheers for the Inspect© r--1 General. New Plymouth, May 20, Nine hundred and forty-eight cadets of all ranks are parading for review hy General Hamilton, and the weather is fine.
