Lord Cromer is seriously ill, states a London cablegram. Dr. has been selected / as the Liberal /candidate for the Hawke’s Bay seat. William Howard Smith, as next of kin, is claiming in the intestate estate of Edmund Smith, of Melbourne. *Mr J. H. N. A. Burns, local manager of the New Zealand Shipping Coy was at the Wellington Club last evening, and shortly before seven o’clock was taken ill, aid was rendered, but he died half an hour after. Death was not unexpected, as he had been ailing for some time past. He leaves a son and daughter unmarried. —P A.
Mr George Sangster, President of the Scottish Society, was unfortunately unable to welcome Sir lan Hamilton to. Stratford to-day, having had the misfortune to be thrown from his trap, and in consequence temporarily disabled. Friends will be glad to learn, however, that Mr Sangster is not at all seriously hurt, and expects to be about again in a day or so.
