CLOSER SETTLEMENT.

HON. W. FRASER'S VIEWS'. (By Eleotbio Telegbaph—Copyright] [United Pbebb Association.] Pongaroa, April 30. A deputation asked the Hon. Mr Fraser that land lie thrown open for loser settlement, with a particular reference to Burling's Estate, which is situated near Pongaroa township. Members declared that there was a great demand for workers' homes. The Minister said the Prime Minister's main object was to promote the closer settlement of smaller areas, and that was the feeling of the whole Cabinet. He would place representations before the Minister of Lands, and he felt sure the latter would obtain a full report on the subject. Mr Praser said there could be no general prosperity unless the land was held in smaller areas in a reasonAble way, thus increasing the population and assisting the railway revenue. Every effort should be made in that direction. He would also tell 'die Prime Minister his (Mr Eraser's) views on the matter.
