THE DEATH* OF BENTON.

Mexico City, March 13. A Carranza Commission is investi-
gating Benton’s death. There is an unconfirmed report that it has been discovered that Major Fierro was the actual murderer, and that Fierro has been arrested.

THE MONROE DOCTRINE.
Washington, March 13
The President informed callers that the Monroe Doctrine was as much a part of the American foreign policy to-day as it was a hundred years ago.
Without -expressing any opinion on the speech of Dr. Page, the Lhited States Ambassador, he refused to believe that there had been anything approaching a suggestion that the dectrine was obsolete.
The Senate resolution declared that Dr. Page’s remarks portended that the policy of the State Department was to abandon upon demand the Monroe doctrine, thus inviting European violation thereof.
