IMMACULATE CONCEPTION
, THE AKED CONTROVERSY. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 12.5 p.m.) San Francisco, February 17. By seventy-four votes against nineteen, the San Francisco Church Federation refused to allow the Rev. Dr.' ked to resign, and he agreed to continue in the pastorate. On February 5 a cablegram from Washington stated: — The Presbyterian Ministers’ Association in San Francisco, is demanding the resignation of the Rev. Dr. Aked, in consequence of the latter’s statement in a sermon that he did pot support the doctrine of the immaculate conception or birth of Christ. He said the faith of John, Paul, James, and Mark was good enough fir him, and these men said nothing about Jesus coming into the world j in any miraculous way. Ihe Preshy-j terian Association declares that these j beliefs disqualify Hr. Aked from holding office in the Church, and that his withdrawal is necessary if church discipline is to be maintained.
