—_—o——— BIBLE IN SCHOOLS. [Per Press Association,] Christchurch, February 17. At a meeting of the Central Committee of the. Bible-in-Schools League to-night, a resolution was passed that the meeting expresses the conviction that sufficient evidence has been afforded the Government of the wishes of New Zealand for the referendum asked for by the League, and to justify the Government in passing the necessary measure to allow the peojile to decide the matter for themselves at the next general election. The meeting also resolved that it would regret any delay in the granting of a referendum, fearing the effect of such delay would be to cause the ques- | lion of religious instruction to become 1 predominant at the next general elec- 1 tion, and pledged itself to support the executive in whatever course it debraed necessary. The resolution also contained a suggestion to the executive to consider the desirableness of obtaining from members of the League signed- promises from those prepared to put tbo quos:ion before all political issues.
