The butchers strike lias assumed a serious aspect. A combined meeting of representatives of the whole meat industry lias decided to offer men a compromise of forty-nine half hours a week with a rise of live shillings instead of ten. 'File secretary of the master butchers association said that with the present high prices of stock and wages not one butchery business in Sydney was paying expenses. There is to be a further meeting of the employers on Thursday if the butchers shops will be closed.
