SWIMMING. HANDICAP CHAMPION CUP. Owing to a misunderstanding it was found impossible to swim the preliminary heats ot the 75yds distance last night, and the races will be held this levelling. The semi-tinal will be swum tomorrow night, and the linal at next Tuesday’s carnival. NEXT WEEK’S CARNIVAL. The committee of the Swimming Club met last night to make linal arrangements for the carnival to ho held on Tuesday evening next. Mr J. Petrie was appointed staitcr and Mr X. R. Templer choCK staitcr. Mr C. Potts wrote resigning his post as treasurer owing to pressure ot business, and Mr H. Dewar was appointed in his place. Mr Cor let t was appointed call steward for club races.
The following officials were appointed for the Carnival: Swimming .indigos, Messrs W. 11.I 1 . Kirkwood, W. B. Fearon and 0. D. Hunter; call stewards, Messrs T. Corlett, J. J. Staples and A. J. Davey; starter, Mr J. Petrie ; check starter, to be appointed ; timekeeper, Mr Pinhey; referee, Mr D. J. Malone; diving judges, Messrs W. Lints and C. E. Seabright; gatekeepers,. Messrs T). Finlay and N. R. Templer; lap steward, Mr H. L. Spratt; assistant secretary, Mr C. Potts; water polo referee, Mr Lister; blackboard, Mr J. Thomas; costume steward, Mr F. T. Hale. It was decided that refreshments be provided, and Mr R. H. Kivell was asked to attend to details. In future all club races are to be swum in full costume.
Tents are to be erected to provide extra dressing accommodation. The sub-committee set up to deal with lighting reported that four 100 c.p. lights would be provided, and that the gear would be a permanency. This will enable club races to be held in the evening, which should be a great convenience to the club, as at present it s somewhat difficult to get a good nuster after work. The members of the committee will neet at the bath at 6.30 a.m. on Monlay and again on Monday evening for he purpose of erecting tents and doing other work necessary for the carnival. The secretary of the Xew South Wales Rugby League, in a letter in reply to an appeal for Olympic funds, says the Amateur Sporting Federation, having debarred League players without distinction from participating in amateur sport, amateurism should now have more decency than to appeal for funds to anybody associated with the Rugby League. If the restrictions were removed the Leaguers would he pleased to subscribe.
