COUNTY RIDING RATES.

[Pee Pkess Association.] Wellington, January 16. A judgment has just been received from the Chief Justice in the action brought by Warren and others against the Pahiatua County Council, in which application was made for an injunction to prevent the Council from levying a rate of in the £‘ on the Konini Hiding, or, in the alternative, from demanding more than Id in the £l, and for a refund of amounts collected in excess of id. His Honor dismissed the action on the ground that, before the Court could interfere, it must .be shown that some fraud on the statute had been committed, and this, he cinsidered, had not been proved.

CHARGE OF PERJURY. * Masterton, January 16. 'Arthur William Petherick was today committed for trial on a charge of perjury arising from evidence given in a licensing case in which he was defendant. Bail was allowed.
