DISTRESS IN AUCKLAND.
AS RESULT OF THE STRIKE. [Per Press Association.] Auckland, January 16. There is much distress amongst the married men who went out on strike in Auckland and have been since unemployed. The amount of money in the hands of the Strike Committee is small and far from sufficient to relieve pressing cases of distress. Small sums are being paid -' out to prevent actual hunger, but no attempt b being made to assist strikers to pay house rent. Bailiffs have been put in possession in numerous heufe!,'.' and "one •of the Hen-* s ants evicted, but there have been . no case of the agents taking possession of the furniture.
