WELLINGTON WATRESIDERS.
MATTERS WORKING SMOOTHLY.
Wellington, January 13
In accordance with the new arrangement, the labour on the wharves was engaged at various points selected, and matters worked smoothly. Xo clashes between the old a ad, pew, men., were reported, and it is by the wharf officials that the new system will do away with any unpleasant incidents 'which seem unavoidable when men congregate in one body.- \ Preference badges were freely sold to-day, and a few more applications of; membership of the new union were received. As yet, it is impossible, to compute how many members of the union have left, but an approximate estimate seems to be between 300 and 400. A fair number of ex-strikers found employment to-day, but the majority of them are unemployed, although not many'hang about the wharves. An official of the old union states that some of them have gone to the country, and many are taking odd jobs about town.
Two requisitions for special meetings signed by ex-strikers who have joined the new union have been received by the executive, but no definite decision lias yet been arrived at as to when such meeting will be called.
