MINERS AND PNEUMONIA.

AN INTERESTING REPORT. (Pt Electric Telegraph—Copyright (United Press association.i London, January 2. Sir E. Almroth Wright, M.D. F.E.S., has completed his report on the prevalence of pneumonia in the Eand mines, of which the first portion was published a year ago. He explains that he made experiments proving that pneumonic pus is a causative agent of pneu-

monia. ■ Incidentally, Sir Almroth protests against the present method of pouring drugs into the human body to destroy bacteria, without regard to after effects, as unscientific and harmful. Carlichs salurian is an example of an absolutely scientific drug which attacked a specific organism only, and combined with the protoplasm of that 1 organism formed ah innocuous chemical compound that finally passed the test of control experiments. In future all vaccines will require to be tested in this manner. The problem to be solved is rather the amount of the antidote likely to set free the patient s blood, than the amount of vaccine to be taken.
