DEATH OF A "SPECIAL."
[Per Press Association. I Carterton, December 15. John Mackay, a drover, aged about 50 years, was found dead this morning in an outhouse at Taratahi Hotel. He' was employed recently in AVellington as a "special," and returned home about 10 days ago. He lived at the Taratahi Hotel.
Albert Victor Hare, laborer, 26, committed suicide at Howick on Saturday. After having refused di'ink at a hotel, he went into a stable and closed the door. The licensee found him sitting on a box with a pointed gun at his head. The licensee told him not to be silly. Whereupon Hare pointed the gun at the licensee, and the latter got out of danger. Then he heard a gun shot, and on returning to the stable found Hare had inflicted fatal injuries. A letter written by deceased stated that he felt he. was unable to redeem himself.
George Hurst Moody, grocer, of Onehunga. cut his throat in a washhouse. He was removed to the hospital, where he is in a serious condition.
