John Hennossy, ex-Governor Sulzer's friend, explained to a crowded meeting that Sulaer; while Governor, resisted every attempt at bribery. This was distasteful to Tammany, which thereby lost some power. Hennessy; said he; did not ' ; "lielieve Mr Glynn would be more plia'nt, and no doubt Tammany would also find some reason for ink'relnoval. '• l Sulzer had never been Governor of Xew York State except nominally. He took the orders which were given him until he was unable to stand Boss Murphy's exactions any longer, and then he rebelled because his conscience had reasserted itself.
