BERNARD'S PICTURES. To-night's change of pictures at Bernard's Theatre will introduce a series of up-to-date. Kinema studies, .introducing "Sliylock, in the Merchant of Venice," adapted from Shakespeare's renowned work, which is produced on a most lavish scale. The story is as follows: Antonio, a shipowner oi Venice, heing temporarily involved through befriending Basanio (in love with Portia, a rich heiress) pledges his credit by executing ai bond of the Jew Usurer Shyloek, as security for a loan. In the event of Antonio's failure to repay the sum lent, the Jew has by terms of the bond, the right to cut a pound of flesh from any part of his debtor's body. Antonio's ships are lost and the Jew demands fulfilment of the unholy condition of the bond and appeals to the court of Venice. Portia appears as counsel for the defence and expounding the law as written points out that Shylock is entitled to cut his pound of flesh, but if in' the cutting, he should spill one drop of Christian blood his wealth and are forfeited to the State. Other plums are ' O'Hara's Godchild" (Vita drama), "Gaumont Graphic," "Cohen Collects a Debt," "Harnessing a Horse," and "Pisa, an old Tuscan City." "Dances of the Ages," by Edison, is a lemaijrafole view of various styles of dancing from 15. C. to the present day, performed by miniature dancers upon a bin-plot table before an assemblage of old daucing masters. One of the aged fellows trFes to perform the awkward now steps but decides that he would rather starve. The prices of admission to dress circle: Ladies Is, gents Is Gd.
