Matthews, Bennett and Co.’s. Report.
Matthews, Bennett and Go. report a good yarding of cattle in their Inglewood yards on Wednesday last'. Bidding for all classes, with the exception of springing heifers, was slacker than past sales, and a fair amount 01 cattle ■ changed hands at the following prices : Store cows £3 ss, to £3 15s, forward do £4 4s to £4 15s, empty heifers £3 3s to £3 10s, yearling heifers, good £2 14s, others 31s to £2 ss, springing heifers £5 10s to £8 15s, hulls £2 10s to £4 15s. Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford branch, report as follows : — ; On Tuesday, 14th dnst., we held our usual weekly springing heifer sale in out l Stratford yards,'when 'we' had a fair yarding of 40 head, 26 being sold, the balance 1 being passed in as the prices were not up to vendors’ expectations. Prices: Fair heifers from £6 5s to £8 5s for nice well-grown stuff, backward and small heifers from £4 for medium and small up to £5 15s for fair stuff.
On Wednesday, 15th inst., we held jour usual monthly sale in our To Wera yards, when there was a fair yarding of 158 head iof cattle and 30 hoggets. There was a fair attendance of buyers, but bidding was slow and most of the stock was passed in. Prices were as follows :—Yearling steers fair quality 59s 6d to 60s 6d, yearling heifers not in demand 44s to 58s 6d, 2- ' year-old empty heifers 72s 6d to 77s Gd, 2|-year steers 84s to 965, store cows 66s to 83s, in calf heifers 80s to 105 s, wether hoggets small 14s. Since we last reported, we have received the following prices for stcok sold privately : —Real good line ,of yearling steers 67s 6d, smaller steers from 56s to 58s, and up to 60s for good stuff, yearling colored heifers 755, 82s 6d to 84s, 2-year-old empty heifers from 72s 6d to 82s 6d, store cows from 72s 6d to 86s for good cattle, 3 to 3]-year-old steers 115 s to 120 s, springing heifers £6 6s, £6 15s, £7 10s to '£B ss, ewes and lambs from 19s up to 23s 6d, fat ewes up to 255, fat wethers up to 225.

The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., have received the following cablegram from their London house under date 15th October, 1913: Wheat.—Have sold an Australian cargo at 35s 9d, c.i.f. There -is verylittle demand owing to heavy arrivals, and market is likely to decline. Sheepskins.—Market is firm with an upward tendency 7.
