"FETISH"
THE SPIRIT OF LAXITY.
ARCHBISHOP WRIGHT’S WARNING. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright) [United Press Association.) (Received 8.10 a.in.) Sydney, October 20. Archbishop Wright, preaching at the Cathedral, said there was a spirit of laxity in the air. People seemed to take so-long to hold some coriception of the Christian faith. They thought could do as they liked. This was called broadmindedness, but in reality it was fetish, many using it to cloak their want of self-control. There was a want of delicacy in too dress of to-day. A lady said recently: “i dou i care Wha c I wear so long as I startle people.” Such persons forgot tiie sense of proper decorum and unlocked the forces or passionate desire, which caused them to set aside noble selfrestraint to work ail manner of grievous mischief. Some dances at the present hour were fraught with subtle suggestion,. which .must work untold mischief. These things came from irregulated Godless waelth, that satiated itself with sensuous pleasures and poisoned the air of the world with its far-reaching and corrupt influences. The symptoms were those of a decadent civilisation. The people could not claim the protection and salvation of Christ if they did these things.
