THE GOVERNOR’S VISIT.

After the proceedings at the Post Office yesterday]’ the Vice-Regal party and the Mayor 'aid •Councillors were motored to Gardens, where afternoon tea was partaken of. TliencC they proceeded along Fi'nuerty Road to the Lowgarth dairy factory, returning to Stratford via Qpuhakc Road, the proposed route of the Opunake railway being pointed out to the Governor. His Excellency and party left StratfoVd for South prettywell up to schedule time, the special train drawing out of the station about four o’clock.
No guard of .'Honor .was provided, to receive the Governor, but'the following officers of the Xlth Regiment (Taranaki Rifles) met Him at ’the station :—Lieut.-Colonel Malone, ’ officer commanding; Lieut. Mac Donnell, N.Z.S.C., adjutant; Major Leech and Lieut. Gilbert, 'F. Company, Inglewood ; Lieut. Fiirby, commanding H Company, Stratford; Lieutenants Munro and Urquhart, H. Company. Owing to the sitting of Parliament * preventing his attendance, Mr J. B. Hilie, M.P, for the district, sent an apology for his absence to His Worship the Mayor.
The illuminated address presented to His Excellency was the work of Mr J. McAllister and was executed in his best style. The chief feature was a fine view of Stratford from Mr Newton King’s Haymarket, with Mount Egmont in the background. Other features were a picture' of . a sylvan path in King Edward Park, and a representation of the seal of the Borough.
