Mr Stanley McKenzie, lately independent tester for the Stratford and Midhirst Dairy Companies, leaves to-morrow morning' for Hamilton, where he assumes the duties of Government milk tester. His position in Stratford will be filled by Mr Ogle, formerly of the Alton Dairy Co.’s staff.

Sir George and Lady Reid and family have arrived by the Otranto (states a cablegram from Fremantle). Sir Geo. Reid declares that Australia is looming very large in English eyes, despite that some people do not approve of her daring political ventures. It is wonderful how Australian affairs count in London. From the. King and Queen downwards Britishers have the sineerest regard for Australia.

Cr. James Thomson, a member of the Stratford County Council, took his seat at the Council table this morning after an absence of several months (Which had been spent on a tour in ©Gotland and Ireland. The chairman (Cr. W. Hathaway) said he was more than pleased to see their old colleague in ineir midst again. His seat had been kept warm for him, because the Council recognised that Cr. Thomson was the Council’s main brake on expenditure. The Council was at present committed right up to its financial limit, and perhaps the position would have been better had Cr; Thomson not been absent. Cr. Smith endorsed the chairman’s remarks. Cr. Thomson expressed' thanks for the . kind remarks made. It had ben a great pleasure to him tb re-visit Scotland and Ireland and to notice the progress which had been made, though in certain cases he had been disappointed. He had made inquiries on matters bearing on road-making and had brought back considerable literature on the matter.
