LATE LOCALS.
Mr C. Bacon, president of the Whangamoraona Rifle Club, reports that the Club’s range should be completed within a fortnight, and that the local club would like to fire the first match with a Stratford team. After the local bodies conference at Wliangamomomi *on Wednesday it was decided, on the motion of Mr J. 15. Richards, seconded by Mr A. Meredith, to urge the Government to acquire from the natives the freehold of the Maraekouhai *Bloek. The Whangamomona County Council decided at its meeting on Wednesday to alter its meeting day from the fourth Wednesday to the fourth Tuesday. This will enable the councillors travelling by train to save considerable time. Cr, McCntchan, at the meeting of the Whangamomona County Council, made an attack on the present banking system, his remarks being called forth by the passing of a resolution dealing with the ’ Council’s overdraft. He thought it unfair that no consideration was given to the owners of money, the hanks being merely run for the benefit of the shareholders. He thought the time was coming when they would have to institute farmers’ banks or agricultural hanks.
