ADULTERATED BUTTER. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright! [United Press Association.] (Received 11 a.m.) London, September 24. Edward Whittaker, an Irish butter exporter, lias been summoned ai Liverpool for selling butter containing from ten to twelve per cent of sugar. Whittaker stated that lu added sugar because the public taste wanted a mild-salted butter, and he had done so for 35 years, French butter was similarly cured. The magistrate dismissed the case, holding that sugar was a preservative similar to salt. LONDON WOOL SALES. (Received 11 a.m.) London, September 24. At the wool sales there is a good sale with strong Continental competition Yorkshire buyers are somewhat reserved. Crossbreds are firm and price; for merinos are fairly well maintained, except shabby and faulty lots.
