THE RANGIORA FATALITY. , pßibt fitEsk AsSodiATiolff..] " J^.^9t'^ijilrch, |: September; 23i At 'the adjourned inquest on William Alexander Banks, who was killed at Rafigiora by the north express colliding with a lorry which he was driving, the coroner found that deceased's death was due to injuries received through; (his* being -thrown from a waggon he was driving, which was run into byi tt.het express train from Christchurch to Rangiora, when crossing the level qrpssing at High street, Rangiora. Mr Wright, who appeared for the Railway . Department, asked the coroner whether lie would absolve Mrs Humphreys from blame, but Mr T. A. B. Bailey replied that he preferred, not to make any reference to blame in connection with the occurrence.
POUND DEAD. Christchurch, September 23. James, Alfred Carter, married, 52 years old, was found dead to-night in an outhouse behind his residence. He was last seen at eleven o'clock this morning. The cause of death is not known. STRANGE SHOOTING ACCIDENT. Auckland, September 23. Mrs Annie Rawstrom, aged 52 years, wife of Albert James Rawstrom, was accidentally shot by her husband at Epsom this morning. Mr and Mrs Rawstrom returned from a holiday! trip to Sydney on Sunday. When unpacking to-day Mrs Rawstrom, lifting! a revolver from her bag, remarked "It is stiff.", The husband replied, J *"Of course it is. It is held by a! clasp." The husband took hold of the) weapon and moved the clasp, causing the revolver to be discharged. The wife dropped with a bullet wound under the left eye, and which was bleeding profusely. She died about fifteen minutes later. FALL FROM A BUILDING. Inglewood, September 23. A young man, named Benjamin j Baker, fell from the upper floor ml the Town Hall building to the ground j floor, twenty-one feet. He sustained: a compound fracture of the right armj and Buffered severely from shock. It is possible he has internal injuries. He has been sent to the New Plymouth hospital. FALL INTO A DOCK. Auckland, September 23. A painter named Harold Hodgson, 25 years old, who resides at Onehunga, met with a painful accident whileworking on the dredge Hapai at thej Calliope Dock this morning. The man: was standing on a ladder painting the upper portion of the dredge, when| two wedges under the ladder slipped and he fell to the bottom of the dock, a distance of about 30 feet. Tt was seen that he was severely injured, and he was immediately conveyed to the Auckland Hospital. It was found that Hodgson had sustained injuries to his back and fractured his ankle. He is progressing favorably.
