The Governor-General, Lc:d Danman, .was a competitor in the Oaklands Hunt Point-to-point Steeple. Although His Excellency rode well, he was beaten.
Included in the list of entries for the .A.T.C. Amateur Challenge Cup and the Sandringham Steeple, to bo run on September 6, i« the Flagship horse Topmast, in the name of tha Governor-General, T.oid Denmah.
Topmast will most likely run'in the amateur event, which is over u distance of tw miles three furlongs and SO yards. Enthusiasts are hoping to see His Excellency in the saddle. Lord Denman has schooled the hors*' at Caulfield on more than one occasion since he purchased him. Tim Gover-nor-General’s colors are claret, silver braiding, and claret cap.
(NOTES BY CICE.RO.) The Marton Jockey Club were favored with a very large acceptance for their spring fixture, which takes place to-morrow. The names of quite a number of Taranaki horses, appear in the various events, and should worthily uphold the reputation of this district. The big field of eighteen has paid up for the Hack Hurdles. Sam Pan, who is moving well at present, Aha, a member of Lloyd’s stable, and "Witched (who hails from Karamu and is reported to have beaten Bollin in a gallop recently) will each claim admirers and should rim well. Of a largo entry in the maiden race, Bonny Helen and Adelicia appear in a class by themselves, although Styrax is galloping remarkably well just now.
