N.Z. Loan arid M. A. A. Co.'s Report. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Co., Ltd., Stratford Branch report as follows : On Wednesday, 20th August, we held our usual monthly sale in our Te Went yards, when there was only a small yarding of about 50 head of cattle, the sheep entered not coming forward. Empty heifers sold at 65.~ to 70s, store cows in lines 70s to 755, and up to 100 s for forward cows, small yearling steers 27s 6d to 40s ; fat ewes up to 225. On tho same day we gave a demonstration of stumping with the now explosive "Eruptite," on some largo rimus adjacent to the yards, which resulted in the stumps being completely destroyed, much to the surprise and satisfaction of the onlookers.

On Tuesday, 26th inst., we held our usual fortnightly sale in our Stratford saloyards, when there were about 350 head of cattle yarded. There was a large attendance of the public, buyers also being present from Manaia. Awatuna, Koh'uratahi and Hunterville. Bidding was very brisk for most saleable lines, and a fair clearance was effected. In the dairy pon: there was a large entry and good com petition ruled, a lot of good forward heifers being sold at satisfactory prices, but poor quality and aged cows did not meet with favor.

Yearling Shorthorn heifers, pooi condition and small, made from Soup to 55s for fair cattle, fair yearling steers made up to 565, colored yearling heifers from 67s to 90s, 18 to 24month empty heifers 70s (id to 80s, 2year steers 85s, 965, store cows small ai)d low condition 22s 6d to 575, ordinary sorts 65s to 85s, forward cows 89s to Ills for fresh conditioned lines, bulls small 50s to 655, In the dairy pens, Shorthorn heifers close to protit and good quality 130 sto 160 s, backward and small 95s to 1,155, Jersey springing heifers close 155 s to 190 s small and backward 80s to 1455, dain cows ordinary quality 100 s to 1655. aged cows not in demand 100 s to 110 s

We held our usual monthly auction sale of wool, sheepskins, hides, calfskins an dtallow on Tuesday, when there was a fair catalogue and a large attendance of buyers, bidding being very brisk and values showing a decided advance on previous sales.

Sheepskins in good condition brought from to 8d per lb. medium woplled 5d to 7£d per lb, half woolled 5d to 7d per lb, green skina up to 6s each, damaged lid each, torn skins 3s ,4c! each and black skins 3s each. Wool.— Good clean crutchings brought 7d per lb and medium liner from ojd to 6}d per lb, cow hides from 5Jd 'to B§d, ox Hides to 7sd, yearling hides 3Jd to 6d, calfskins good lljd medium 6gd to 7itl, and rendered tal low 22s Cd pel; cwt. Since we last reported there has been a- keen demand for all classes of stock, at advanced rates, more particularly for sheep. Hoggets were sold at lis," 12s 3d, 12s 53, l3s 6d to I'4f for good, heavy woolled lines, ewe; aged 12s 6d for small, up to 17s Cd and 18s for young fair Tines, but there was nothing special offering in this lines. Yearling steers were placed at 565, 57s 6d, 58s, and up to 61s 6d for a nice line, well grown and goodc olours. Shorthorn empty heifers 50s to 59s 6d, Jersey-Holstein heifers, favourite colour at present, from 70s for small grown, up to 100 s for nice lin., springing heifers, Shorthorn class, £6 to £6 6s, dairy cows up to £8 10s.
