After a week’s continuous carnival of sports and entertainments, the battleship New Zealand left en route for home, it is stated that 200,000 people visited the vessel here. Luo visit has had the effect of reopening the Canadian naval question throughout the Dominion. 1 Whilst the Liberals assert that the Admiralty arranged the tour for the purpose of stimulating Canadian loyalty, the Conservative newspapers assert that Liberals are unable to defend the Canadian Senate’s action and are now simply whistling in order to keep their courage up.
Everywhere New Zealand’s magnificent loyalty is the theme , of newspaper comment. Admiral Reynolds, commander of the American Pacific fleet, paid the highest tribute to the men of the battle-cruiser. Cordial messages were exchanged between Admiral Reynolds and Captain Halsey as the vessels parted company.
