The Public Trust Amendment Bill was introduced by Governor’s message md read a first time. The Hon. A. L. Herdman moved to set up a committee to which would he referred the (statements of Messrs. Wilford, Hanan, Forbes, and Lauren■ion, in connection with the appointnent of Mr Royd Garlick.—Mr T. \I. Wilford asked if he, as a prisoner it the Bar, would be allowed expenses 'or the witnesses he proposed to bring before the committee. He had one rom Eltham (a champion in the Olympic games last year), one each from**' Auckland, Masterton, and Christhurch, and four from Wellington. Te asked why be had not been allowed to pick his own jury, as Mr F. M. B. Fisher had done a few'Weeks ago. Ther e vere six Government members on the •ommittee and out of ten six to four was not fair odds. He had received hoals of letters by every mail from ill sorts of people applauding his atitude and condemning the appointnent.—Mr W. G. Russell said that he setting up of a committee was ’arcical. The Government has a prelominance of votes.—The House met it 7.30, and the debate was continu'd by Messrs R. McCallum, G. Laurmson, J. Payne, and F. M. B. Fisher. —The Hon. W. F. Massey said that he principle which the Government adhered to was that a son of a poor nan would have equal rights with the on of a rich man. If the Public Service Board had been in commission it the time Mr Royd Garlick was aprointed, ho was convinced that the :ame man would have been appointed 0 the position he now holds. There vas not a more suitable man for the >osition, and he could say that ho did not know Mr Royd Garlick.—The Hon. V. L. Herdman said that he was preoared to appoint Mr .1, A. Millar to he Committee, making it consist of Messrs Guthrie. Scott, E. Newman, Poland, Sidey, Statham, J, C. Thomson, Hindmarsh, Millar, and Herdman. The motion was carried on the voices. -..The Christchurch Electrical Supply Empowering Bill (Mr Daveyh-was read 1 second time, and the House rose at 10. ->j.
