IN MEMORY OF W. T. STEAD

[By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received 10.10 a.m.) London, July 31. The steamer Franconia halted over the spot where the Titanic foundered, and laurel wreaths made by members of the late W. T. Stead’s family from trees in his garden were cast into the sea. The band played “Nearer My God to Thee.” Fifteen hundred men and women stood on the decks with bowed heads during the ceremony.
