CONCERT AT NGAERE.
A very succesful concert and social was held last evening in the Public Hall, Ngaere. The function was given in connection with the Presbyterian Church. There was a large attendance, which was swelled by the arrival of a large Stratford. There was a really excellent programme. The Misses Morison opened the concert with a piano and violin duet, rendered in line style. Miss Mackay, Miss Irvine, Mr Douglas, Mr James, Mrs Sims, and the Masters Orr took part -in the programme, receiving hearty encores. Mr D. Ferguson and Mr Wade discoursed selections on the pipes, to the great delight of Scots—and others. The Rev. J. Pattison, who presided, said that when he had suggested the holding of a social in Ngaere, some were fearful that it might be a fizzle. He was sure the social that evening was in point of attendance, and excellency of, programme, anything, but a fizzle. Jie trusted that, the eveniug r s entertainment would bring them to know each other better, and, would also increase the attendance at the. services., He,regretted that there.was > a possibility of, them losing some, of, their best helpers in the Ngaere church. Jt was all the more incumbent upon those who would remain to help the cause by their presence,, at the services.
During the evening the ladies handed around refreshments, which were served with a profusion and taste in harmony with their good reputation ' ' on such 1 occasions.
.In conclusion, thanks were expressed to those who had helped to rnake the social a success. To the Misses Brown' of Ngaere who had assisted in getting up tiie programme, to the various' performers for the valuable contribution s 1 to the evening's entertainment, and to the ladies who had provided the refreshments.
