THE SMALLPOX SCARE.
LYMPH SUPPLY RUNS OUT.

Sydney, July 7
Thirty-eight patients were taken to quarantine to-day, of whom nineteen are suffering from smallpox. This is the largest number of patients discovered in any single day. The total quarantined now amounts to 143, of whom 57 are patients and 86 convalescents and contacts. The epidemic continues in a mild form. Yacci-
nation is proceeding. Lymph ran our to-day, but the authorities says that further supplies are assured, thought they cannot, owing to the widespreal demand, furnish any to private medical men.

THE EFFECT UPON SHIPPING.
(Received 8.5 a.m.) . Sydney, July 7. 1 Four thousand were vaccinated yesterday.
Mr Cook (Premier) declares that he is determined the position must be firmly gripped and the spread of the disease checked at any cost.
The outbreak is already having an ' adverse effect upon shipping in the ! port, and some companies are arranging to omit Sydney as a port of call. AH the companies are arranging for the vacillation of the crews and are advising the passengers that they j must vaccinate.
