. PIRIPIRI CROSSING FATALITY. [Pee Peess Association.] Dannevirke, May 21. Regarding the motor fatality at Piripiri crossing yesterday it appeared that Roy Horace Dean, son of the late Edwin Harland Dean, solicitor, Wellington, was returning from a visit to his mother in Wellington. He had been presented with the car, and was motoring through to Napier. Miss Sweetapple, his fiancee, came from Napier and joined Dean at Dannevirke. She was in his company only half an hour when the accident occurred. An inquest will he held tomorrow, and the funeral will take place in Wellington on Friday. Deceased was 21 years of age. STORM AT PALMERSTON. Palmerston N., May 21. A terrific thunderclap startled residents about seven o’clock this morning. It was discovered later that lightning hpd struck two big trees in Rangitikei street. It splintered \ them to matchwood, bored a big hole in tho earth, ripped up the footpath, and burst the kerbing. No one was hurt. There was a severe hailstorm during the night. ACCIDENT TO TERRITORIAL. Wairoa, May 21. The Territorials returned last evening after a rough time at Oringi Camp owing to the execrable weather. An accident occurred when the supplies waggon was descending a hill near Nahaka. A wheel collapsed and the horses got out of hand. The driver called to those on the waggon to jump. Those who did escaped with minor injuries, but Trooper Fanning sustained a bruised leg and Trooper L. Morloney a bruised hand. Mr William Taylor (Country Health Inspector), had several broken ribs. The 1 driver, Bodley, sustained a kroken kneecap and leg. REAL WINTER AT REEFTON. Recfton, May 21. Heavy snow fell last night, the fall being the heaviest known for manf“ years. Telegraph wires are down and trees uprooted everywhere. In the highers cttlement, over a foot of snow is reported to have fallen. Communication is greatly interfered with. t — J ; — r ‘"
