BOROUGH WATER SERVICE

■. . j. ‘T . v ; —- h V I. oVERgEE&S report: The Borough overseer, Mr T. D. Sullivan submitted the following .re,port at last 1 night’s meeting of the Borough Council:— Acting under your instructions, I b,eg td submit the following report on the extraordinary water services in the Borough. There are 19 extraordinary water services, seven of which are being used for motive power, , namely, T, D. Colson (when working reduces power by 51b. per sq. inch). B. Harkness, 71b.; Newton King, Haymarket, 151 b; Mcßain and Childs, 101 b; A. W. Reid, 51b; J. Rutherford : 101 b; Printing and Publishing Co., 101 b. It will be seen that if.all-the above services were being used at the same time the pressure would be reduced by 721bs. per square inch. Of the remaining twelve, there is only the one to the Dairy Factory, which affects the pressure to any great extent. I may point out that at my suggestion a system of valves were installed between Page Street and Pembroke Road about three years ago so that if an outbreak of fire occurred anywhere fti Broadway, between Opunake Road and Pembroke Road, the whole pressure can be concentrated to any building within that area. Prom this it will be seen that extraordinary supplies could not reduce the pressure in case of fire. I also made a plan of nfl waterworks showing for the Fire Brigade positions of fireplugs, etc., in the Borough. I would suggest that the by-law relating to waste of water and leaky taps be enforced because they contribute very materially towards lowering the pressure.

The discussion of the report was adjourned until next meeting.
