HOCKEY.

TARANAKI HOCKEY ASSOCIATION. The adjourned annual meeting of the Taranaki Hookey Association was held in. New Plymouth last night, when Mr M. W. Priest (Stratford) presided over ah attendance of the i following delegates: Messrs M. J. Harris (Inglewood), H. R. Kemp (Hawera), S. J. Bennett (Kaponga), and J. E, Avery (hon secretary). The secretary explained that no annual report had been brought down, the season’s work hardly warranting one. So far as New Plymouth was concerned, the observance of two halfholidays had practically killed hockey, and the game had generally gone back. The tourney team had performed satisfactorily and behaved splendidly. The balance-sheet showed a credit balance of 18s Id, with receipts amounting to £l6 3s lOd. Mr Avery stated that he had given up hockey, and would, therefore, ask the meeting to accept his resignation as secretary. Ho added that he would be pleased to donate to the funds of the club his honorarium of three guineas.

A motion was passed placing on record the Association’s appreciation of their secretary’s services, also their thanks for his generous donation, and that he be elected a. life member of the Association.

Correspondence Avas received from the Wellington Hockey Association, asking for ap expression of opinion Avith; regard to the inscribing in one year of the name of two tearaS on the Mew Zealand Challenge Shield; and recommending that the name of the holders of the competition at the end of the season be placed on the trophy. This view the meeting endorsed.

It was reported that Stratford would (be entering a team for the Thursday competition. Stratford was fixed as the headquarters of the Association, and the following officers elected: Patron, Mr F. P. Corkill; president, Mi H. L, Hill; hon. secretary, Mr Leslie Curtis; hon. auditor, Mr R. B, Anderson; fixture committee, Messrs. . Curtis, Priest, and Hill.

The opening day was fixed for June 3, entries for the Shield competition to close On Wednesday, May 28. It was decided that all teams should T)lay on home grounds, in place of .utilising neural territory.
