THE BELGIUM STICK 1
SCENES IN PARLIAMENT. [By Electric Telegraph—Copyright] [United Press Association.] (Received S a.m.) Brussels, April 18. There are 397,000 strikers. Angry scenes occurred in Parliament, the Liberals demanding that the Government explain its policy, and tiic Premier refusing. A continuance of the transport service prevent much disturbance of the public comfort.
BROKEN HILL DISPUTE
NEARING A SETTLEMENT. (Received 8 a.m.) Sydney, April 19. A settlement of the Broken Hill strike is apparently in sight. The parties are conferring. An official telegram received from the South Australian Railway Commissioners states that the Labour Federation lias withdrawn its objections to the exemptions claimed by the Silverton Tramway Company, provided there are no prosecutions and victimisation. It is expected that the directors will approve and that the strike will speedily be declared off. POSITION UNCHANGED. (Received 9.45 a.m,) Sydney, April 19. The position in the southern and northern coalfields is practically unchanged. Negotiations in view of settlement continue.
