A suffragette plot to burn the Standard newspaper offices was frustrated. (Received 9.45 a.m.) London, April 18. Lansbury and Mrs Drummond have been remanded on charges of incitement. Two suffragettes hoisted flags on the .Duke of Fife monument and inscribed “Death or Liberty.” They took refuge in a house and bolted the door. The police broke down the door and arrested them. A large force of police protected the suffragettes from a huge threatening crowd, who shouted: “Duck them in the Thames!” After sheltering in the police station for some hours they were released.
